SDI Acting Executive Director Leaves Liberia for International Confab in Indonesia

Friday, February 24, 2023 - 12:00
Mr. Jonathan W. Yiah, Acting Executive Director of the Sustainable Development Institute (SDI)

Mr. Jonathan W. Yiah, Acting Executive Director of the Sustainable Development Institute (SDI) will be among delegates from Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America attending a UK Government sponsored Broader Market Recognition (BMR) timber-producing countries coalition forum in Bali, Indonesia, from 27th   February to 3 rd March 2023.

The conference is aimed at forging a new program after the United Kingdom Government’s Forest Governance, Market and Climate (FGMC) program, which has supported civil society organizations and governments in Asia, Africa, and Latin America since 2011. FGMC integrated governance and market reforms, contributed to reducing the illegal use of forest resources aimed at benefiting communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods as part of global efforts to improve forest management and tackle deforestation, particularly tackling illegal logging in timber-producing developing countries.

The upcoming event is in continuation of the Broader Market Recognition (BMR) timber-producing countries coalition forum. It can be recalled that two forums were held in April & September 2022 to discuss and elaborate on the new program. At the forum in Bali, Indonesia, delegates will be crystallizing various discussions held in 2022. The forum in Bali, Indonesia will focus on agreeing to a roadmap on how the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office will support partnerships that demonstrate how governments, the private sector, and civil society can work collaboratively to ensure sustainable forest management of tropical forests through coalition.
