Community Guide: Protecting Community Lands and Resources

Wednesday, October 2, 2013 - 12:00
SDI-NAMATI Community Guide.pdf (4.02 MB)

The Government of Liberia has drafted a new land policy that recognizes community ownership rights over their customary lands. The Community Guide to Protecting Community Lands and Resources teaches communities how to go through the process of documenting and protecting their customary lands and natural resources. The guide uses simple, easy to follow steps to explain how communities can: harmonize and map their customary boundaries, set up local governance and decision-making structures, draft community by-laws, and manage community highlight lands and natural resources. The guide also explains how communities can solve existing land conflicts peacefully. The steps in the Community Guide were adapted to closely reflect the tenants of the Community Rights Law (CRL).
