A. Morris Nyain

Monitoring & Evaluation Officer

As M&E Officer, Morris supports the program management team in tracking project outcomes, which includes designing and developing the tools required for gathering the necessary qualitative and quantitative data for monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting. He also supports partner organizations with their data collection and analysis, and represents SDI in meetings with stakeholders. He has been with SDI since 2017, and holds a Bachelor’s in Public Administration from African Methodist Episcopal Zion University, as well as a higher certificate in Monitoring & Evaluation from the Liberia Institute of Public Administration.

Gender Officer/Project Officer, Forest Governance Program (FGP)

As Gender Officer, Ama leads initiatives to integrate gender Perspectives across SDI’s programs and promotes the active participation of women. She also serves as Liberia’s representative to the Friends of the Earth Africa Gender Justice and Dismantling Patriarchy Working Group, contributing to regional efforts on gender justice and social inclusion. Additionally, as Project Officer, she oversees project planning, stakeholder collaboration, and program implementation within the Forest Governance Program. She initially joined SDI as an intern in 2021, transitioning to a full-time role in 2022. She holds a Bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of Liberia and a Master’s in Foreign Service Leadership from African Methodist Episcopal University.

Just Energy Transition (JET) Facilitator, Community Rights & Corporate Governance Program (CRCGP)

As JET Facilitator, Angie regularly coordinates across government ministries and civil society organizations, including groups representing women and youth, to facilitate a national-level platform for information exchange and constructive dialogue on issues related to renewable energy transition in Liberia. She also engages with communities impacted by mining activities to understand their concerns and provide them with accurate information. Angie has been with SDI since 2023 and holds a Bachelor’s in Public Health from Adventist University of West Africa.

GIS Specialist

As a GIS Specialist, Arthur works directly with communities to collect geospatial data and map land boundaries. The information he collects is then disseminated across programs to serve as a reference point when assessing the status of community land. He is very passionate about transferring his technical knowledge to the communities with whom he works. In addition to his work with SDI, he also teaches computer science classes at a local community college. He has been with SDI since 2015 and holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration (with a double specialization in Economics and Information Systems) from the Ohio State University, as well as a Bachelor’s in Economics from Cuttington University.

Security Guard

As a security guard for SDI, Benjamin ensures that all office buildings are locked and inaccessible to unauthorized people in the evening hours and during holidays. He has had a long career working as a security guard for other institutions, and has been with SDI since 2009. He is originally from Sinoe County.

Finance Officer, Community Rights & Corporate Governance Program (CRCGP)

As Finance Officer for the Community Rights & Corporate Governance Program, Boakai meticulously reviews all payment requests and prepares the allocation of funds for program expenses, including all project-related expenses, payroll, and taxes. He is also responsible for bank reconciliation and preparing financial reports. He holds a Bachelor’s in Accounting & Finance from the University of Liberia, and has worked for SDI since 2022.

Program Coordinator, Community Land Protection Program (CLPP)

As Program Coordinator for the Community Land Protection Program, Daniel leads the team responsible for formalizing customary land and establishing community-based land governance structures, working with traditional local leaders and national stakeholders to ensure that there are no gaps in the safeguarding of land rights. In addition to coordinating this work, which takes place throughout Liberia, Daniel regularly attends international conferences, such as COP, to represent SDI formally and, more broadly, the interests of Liberia and its people in global deliberations on climate change and other matters. He has been with SDI since 2015 and holds a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Liberia.

GIS Officer/IT Assistant

As GIS Officer, Dioh directly assists and often accompanies the GIS Specialist in the field, as well as with post-field analysis. He also leads the GIS component of the TIMBY newsletter reports, and as an IT Assistant, is generally the go-to individual for all things technical. He is in pursuit of his Bachelor’s in Procurement from United Methodist University, and has been with SDI since 2017.

National Program Assistant, Forest Governance Program (FGP)

As National Program Assistant for the Forest Governance Program, Edward provides administrative support, including planning and organizing workshops and meetings, as well as supporting communities through training on forest governance, legal frameworks, TIMBY, and financial management. He has over 15 years of experience working with local communities and development partners. In addition to his role with SDI, he is also an accomplished musician, specializing in funk. He has been with SDI since 2016, and holds a Bachelor’s in Mass Communication (electronic media) from the University of Liberia.

Program Coordinator, Community Rights & Corporate Governance Program (CRCGP)

As Program Coordinator for the Community Rights & Corporate Governance Program, James leads the team responsible for investigating and evaluating the social, economic, and environmental effects of natural resource policies and activities in the country, taking a broad, overarching look at the behavior of corporate concessionaires in Liberia, as well as the conduct of the government in allocating concessions. He has been with SDI since 2009, and holds a Bachelor’s in Sociology from United Methodist University.

Driver, Community Rights & Corporate Governance Program (CRCGP)

As a driver for the Community Rights & Corporate Governance Program, James not only navigates the difficult roads connecting the counties of Liberia, but at times will travel over the border on behalf of the program. He is also typically the first representative of SDI that foreign visitors will meet, as he is often tasked with receiving them at the airport. He has been a part of SDI since 2018, and is a proud son of both Bong and Lofa Counties.

Security Guard

As one of the evening security guards for SDI, Joseph ensures that the premises are safe and secure during non-working hours, throughout the night into the morning. He has been doing this since the very beginning of SDI, having joined back in 2002 when the organization was founded. He hails from Grand Gedeh County.

Finance and Administrative Manager

As Finance and Administrative Manager, Kpaku provides leadership to the finance and administrative staff, identifies risks, manages cash flows, ensures timely donor reporting, and manages external relationships with banks and other third parties. He has extensive experience in professional accounting, having previously worked for governmental and international organizations, and has been with SDI since 2016. He holds a Bachelor’s in Accounting and a Master’s in Finance from Cuttington University.

Office Assistant, Community Land Protection Program (CLPP)

As Office Assistant for the Community Land Protection Program, Marinus is responsible for procurement, logistics, filing, documentation, and management support. Her interests primarily concern how communities are shaped through the intersection of politics, economics, and social welfare. She has been with SDI since 2020, initially joining as an intern, and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Public Administration and Supply Chain Management from United Methodist University.

Security Guard

As a security guard for SDI, Matthew oversees the premises to keep SDI safe and secure during both working and non-working hours. He has been working with SDI since 2021 and hails from Monrovia.

As an evening security guard for SDI, Moses spends the night at the office, monitoring the premises thoroughly to prevent trespass by unauthorized people. He has been with SDI since 2012 and is originally from Grand Gedeh County.

Driver, Community Land Protection Program (CLPP)

As a driver for the Community Land Protection Program, Musa carries the team through the often highly challenging terrain of rural Liberia and is always reliable and consistent in doing so. He originally started working with SDI in 2015 on a contract basis and officially joined the organization in 2017. He hails from Nimba County.

Maintenance Officer

As the maintenance officer for SDI’s headquarters in Duazon, Oscar is responsible for keeping the office stocked with necessary supplies, day-to-day material procurement, and general building upkeep. He hails from Sinoe County and has been with SDI since 2011.

Mechanic

As the resident mechanic for SDI, Philip remains on top of any issues related to the electrification and physical functioning of the office space in Duazon. He has been with SDI since 2013, and originally hails from Grand Bassa County.

Media & Communications Officer

As Media & Communications Officer, Reuben works closely with program leads and media outlets, both local and international, to develop and distribute official communication, including fact-sheets, press releases, quarterly newsletters, and social media posts. His reporting credentials are extensive - he holds over ten professional certificates from reputable local and international institutions. He has been with SDI since 2022, and holds a Bachelor’s in Public Administration and Management (with emphasis on Public Policy and Development Planning) from the University of Liberia.

As a security guard for SDI, Sam monitors entry into office premises throughout the workday and also assists staff with other tasks as needed. He has been with SDI since 2021, and originally hails from Nimba County.

National Program Assistant, Community Land Protection Program (CLPP)

As National Program Assistant for the Community Land Protection Program, Sam plays a pivotal role in collecting and managing data from field staff and community members, ensuring meaningful community participation in environmental and natural resource decision-making. His expertise spans GIS data collection, community land mapping, and monitoring and evaluation, with a strong focus on the formalization of customary land tenure. Beyond project coordination, Sam contributes to communications and knowledge management, maintaining SDI’s online filing systems, reporting tools, and digital platforms. Sam has been with SDI since 2017, initially joining as an intern. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from Starz University and a GIS certificate from the University of Twente.

As National Program Assistant for the Community Rights & Corporate Governance Program, Sampson’s responsibilities include managing overall program administration and logistics, particularly in the western and southeastern regions of Liberia, and timely reporting of activities. He is driven by a desire to ensure that corporations and the government respect the social and environmental rights of communities. He has been with SDI since 2016, and holds a Bachelor’s in Economics and a Master’s in Environmental Science from the University of Liberia

As a driver for the Forest Governance Program, Seto is responsible for transporting staff and guests across Liberia’s interior terrains to attend to various program engagements. He has been with SDI since 2012, and originally hails from Grand Gedeh County.

Executive Director

As Executive Director of SDI, Wilfred represents SDI officially in all national and international correspondence and coordinates across all programs to ensure that the organization’s various efforts are aligned around a central vision and mission. He has been leading SDI since 2022, following a lengthy career in the field of peace-building and conflict resolution. He holds a Bachelor’s in Theology from United Methodist University and a Master’s in Theological Studies from Africa University.

Co-Facilitator, Community Land Protection Program (CLPP)

As Co-Facilitator for the Community Land Protection Program, Wlayor supports customary land formalization activities in the Southeast landscape, which includes setting up community land governance structures and supporting their regular coordination meetings, as well as working with key stakeholders to improve transparency and equitable land governance. Wlayor also supports collaboration meetings with local authorities and ensures their participation in project activities. She holds an Associate’s in Accounting from Stella Maris Polytechnic University, and has been with SDI since 2019.
